Reply from our State Representative

I got a reply from our State Representative, thanking me for my email and informing me that he is a co-sponsor of the Adoption Tax Credit! Nice Surprise. Take time to contact your senator or state representative today and let them know that you couldn't afford to adopt if it weren't for this tax credit and that they need to vote for it.

On a lighter note, this weekend the girls and I planted some perennials in the front of our house. We can't wait until they bloom! The tulips look beautiful. We planted Black eyed Susan's, Daisies, Echinecea and Dahlia's.

Caroline (6 yr old) has been practicing her 'shoe toss', sack race and running for field day on Wednesday. She loves it! She has been asking tons of questions about why they have to run into a ribbon, and won't it break etc.

We are so blessed with this beautiful weather, employment and our children (and so much more). Happy Mother's Day for Sunday, hopefully our little ones will be home this time next year!

Just wanted to let you know that I read your blog.

Good luck.

Hey! Thanks for keeping tabs on us :) I actually slept in bed with him for the first week he was out of the orphanage while we were in Kiev. He has a tendancy to fall out of bed at night, so we surrounded him with pillows on one side and me on the other.

Once we got home and he discovered his toddler bed (with a rail that goes all the way down) I decided he would need to sleep in his bed and me in mine. It's definitely recommended by me. Right now he doesn't understand what's going on and is really confused and somewhat frightened. He trusts me because I've been his constant for the past 6 weeks, so he's easier to get to sleep and keep him asleep when I'm in the room. He feels much more secure that way. Not to mention he's never slept in a room by himself before.

His tantrums are not very common as long as he's had his sleep and he is fed. We ignore him if it's him just being tired and that works.

I also sing to him often to signal the next step in the day. For example I sing the Hi Ho song from Sleeping Beauty to signal bath time. He picks up on the rythm (not the words) and it helps him to understand what's going on since he doesn't understand the language yet. Many orphans respond well to music.

Eli's here so I've gotta go. Ah, the fun of toddlerhood :)
