Great list, Celeste. I also plan on bringing a soft, smaller ball when we pick up our son. We can roll it indoors or throw it outdoors.

If Calvin's potty-trained, you need big boy underwear, too :). And socks in case he doesn't like to feel shoes right on his feet. He's probably never really been barefoot either.

If you're taking a laptop, maybe you can get some cartoons uploaded for Calvin to watch on the plane with headphones. Something like Curious George has very few words, so he could follow the stories easily.

I don't remember how old your little guy is but when we brought our boys home they were 2.5. For the plane ride I recommend a natural seditive called Kav Kav... it did wonders! We took a portable DVD player, at the time we had Baby Einstein in Russian but that won't do much for Bulgaria! Although it is very similar. LOTS of snacks for the plane. We stuffed food in mouths when they woke up and then they fell back asleep. Books, crayons, hand held toys with no small pieces. Matchbox cars? Dry erase board, etch a sketch, magna doddle. Hope that helps! I'm trying to think of girl things but there really isn't much to help entertain an 1 year old that is biologically 3.5 years old with for 13 hours on a plane! FOOD and sleep hopefully ;)

Lollipops for the plane ride home. We didn't know if Andrew was used to gum or not, so we decided on lollipops to help him swallow on take-offs and landings. They worked great. We had coloring books and stickers. Stickers were a huge hit. We brought a ton and he stuck them on all his coloring books and notebooks and restuck them. He did love his toy camera and toy phone that we bought at the Walmart check out line. Hope this helps.
You're getting closer to bringing Calvin home. Yay!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions! so helpful. Will start getting stuff to keep me going :) He isn't potty trained yet, kind of a good thing I guess with traveling.

If you're a shoes off kind of house, you may want to bring slippers as a transition.

Also, we thought we'd be good to go with movies and headphones on the plane, but Andrew didn't want anything to do with headphones. He would sit still for movies real good at the apartment, but we hadn't introduced him to headphones until the plane ride. Maybe if we used them before the plane he would have watched movies on the plane.

Hope this helps.

Bill entertained M. for a full hour each time he got out the mini play-dough. He would make things out of it, like cups, saucers, etc. She was completely entertained by that. She liked to see what he would make more than she made things. Aqua doodle has a travel size. Kids often wear socks even with sandals. I will keep shooting ideas your way as I think of things. BUT, you've got it covered!
